There are low carbon and high carbon versions of the SS 316L Hot Rolled Coil. The low carbon one is used when welding is required for ensuring maximum resistance to corrosion. They come with a high melting point, which ranges between 1371-1399 degrees C, and that is why the UNS S31600 Coil is ideally used in several high temperature applications.

The low carbon version of the Stainless Steel Coil 316L is immune from sensitization, which is known as the grain boundary carbide precipitation. This is why they are widely used in heavy gauge welded components. The DIN 1.4401 Coil has an austenitic structure which enhances its toughness, even at the cryogenic temperatures.

316 and 316l stainless steel sheets are two types of steel used often in the manufacture of medical devices, marine applications and kitchen finishes. 316 stainless steel uses molybdenum as its primary alloying agent, while 316L includes an extra-low carbon content to prevent carbon precipitation. 316L is slightly more ductile than 316 and offers better weldability, whereas 316 is stronger under higher temperatures and pressures. Both 316 and 316l stainless steel sheets provide corrosion resistance due to the presence of a high concentration of chromium, allowing them to be used in highly corrosive environments.

316 / 316L stainless steel plates are part of the austenitic family of stainless steel and is the most widely used varieties of stainless plate. 316 grades contain a higher level of Nickel than 304 giving it an improved corrosion resistance over 304 grades. 316/316L plate is a good option for marine applications due to a good atmospheric corrosion resistance. 316L is a low carbon modification to 316 grade.

These steels are the second most regularly specified stainless steels after Type 304and are part of the SAE defined 300 Series which encompasses a range of austenitic chromium-nickel alloys. Austenitic stainless steels like Type 316 are widely available, have good general corrosion resistance, good cryogenic toughness, and excellent formability and weldability.

316L, the low carbon version of Stainless steel 316, while Type 316H is a higher carbon variant of 316 mainly suitable for elevated temperature applications. 316Ti is a titanium stabilized version of 316. Resistance to sensitization is achieved in type 316Ti with titanium additions to stabilize the structure against chromium carbide precipitation, which is the source of sensitization.
