Stainless Steel 430/431 are martensitic, heat-treatable grades with excellent corrosion resistance, torque strength, high toughness and tensile properties. All these properties make them ideal for bolt and shaft applications. These steels, however, cannot be cold-worked owing to their high yield strength, hence they are suitable for operations such as spinning, deep drawing, bending or cold heading.
Grade 430 (UNS S43000, EN 1.4016) is the most widely used family of Ferritic alloys. It is known for its good corrosion resistance to numerous substance, excellent stress, and formability, coupled with practical mechanical properties. Grade 430 has excellent resistance to citric and nitric acid, sulfur gases; slightly less corrosion and heat resistant than Types 301, 302, and 304. It can be used in certain chemical applications. Grade 430 is a magnetic stainless steel. It can be formed using a large variety of roll forming or mild stretch-bending operations, as well as the more common drawing and bending processes. The steel has limited weldability and should not be used in the as welded condition for dynamic or impact loaded structures.
