As a non-heat treatable, austenitic, electric furnace processed grade of stainless steel, Type 347 closely resembles Type 321 but is enhanced with columbium instead of titanium. This difference allows 347 Buttweld Fittings to withstand higher temperatures, as columbium carbide remains stable and insoluble at elevated temperatures. While Type 347 is non-magnetic in the annealed state, it is not recommended for radioactive services due to the long half-life of radioactive tantalum compared to columbium.
